To determine the winners of the Certificate of Excellence, TripAdvisor uses an algorithm of its own that takes into account the quantity, quality and topicality of the opinions and comments sent by TripAdvisor travelers over a 12-month period, as well as the age of the business and its classification in the Popularity Index on the site. To qualify for a Certificate of Excellence, a business must maintain an overall rating of at least four out of five bubbles on TripAdvisor, have a minimum number of opinions and have had the profile on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.
