Cabarete is one of the Caribbean’s best-known kitesurfing and windsurfing destinations, and POP consequently sees more board bags than most airports in the country. Sporting equipment is straightforward when it is declared in advance and a genuine problem when it appears at the kerb.

• Surfboards, kiteboards and windsurf gear. Board length is what matters, so give it along with the number of bags. Some boards travel in a van without difficulty and others need a specific vehicle.
